Each year the Indianapolis area HUB offices come together to volunteer as part of the HUB Gives program that encourages employees to donate their time, creativity, and connections to community projects.

On May 14th, we spent the day at Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, one of the leading organizations involved in fighting hunger in Indiana. Last year, Gleaners distributed 97 million meals to their 21-county service area and to food banks in 21 states.
Our volunteers were split up into two groups – one group organizing the drink donations and the other group repackaging bulk pasta into family size servings.
The drink donations group sorted bulk liquid donations into two categories. They separated the water bottles first, then packed the remaining beverages into 30-pound boxes. These boxes are then sent to food banks and pantries. Not only did they help the community—they also earned a pass on the gym!

The group working on repackaging bulk pasta took large pallets of noodles, sorted them into individual packages and sealed them to be distributed. Of course, we love healthy competition! Team “Impastas” won the morning session beating out the Noodlers, Mac N Scoop and Nameless for most units packaged.

At the end of the day, we packed/moved 5,581 pounds of pasta, 1,440 pound of coffee and 5,369 pounds of beverages. This helps to provide 10,324 meals to those suffering from hunger in our community. This is an important day to us as Service is one of our founding values, and we believe that commitment should strongly impact the communities in which we live and work.
